  As a teenager in the late ’80s, I lived for the “Much Music Power Hour” up here in Canada. We spent Saturday nights in the parking lots, radios cranked and heavy metal blaring from the rows of Camaros and pickup trucks. You couldn’t swing a cat without hitting someone wearing a leather jacket with a Metallica decal sewn on the back. Now, 20 years later, my husband and I have brought back the tradition. We fire up the pickup, settle into our favourite parking spot downtown and tune the stereo into The House of Hair. I know he’d request AC/DC, but I’m gonna have to ask you to play one of MY favourites tonight – “Tell Me” by White Lion. Thanks, Babe!

There’s nothing more cleansing than cranking up your radio show till the break of dawn after a Friday night out on the town with my friends and their awful hip-hop garbage. • I’m requesting ‘You Can’t Stop Rock and Roll.’ To celebrate the first time seeing Twisted Sister live in 1983, my friend Greg and I made three T-shirts emblazoned with the venue and date along with the phrase ‘You Can’t Stop Rock and Roll’ and the Twisted Sister logo. We hoped that we might meet the band after the show and pass on a shirt as a show of fan loyalty. Jay was the lucky recipient and immediately asked us, ‘You’re not selling these outside, are you?’ They looked that good! We assured him it was a one-time thing just cuz we were so happy to see you guys, being the fans that we were. That was in Buffalo, New York, on October 22nd, 1983, and Queensryche opened up for you guys! Talk about a show that I will never forget! Keep up the faith!

Ya know, bands like Keel with the power ballad “Tears of Fire,” Metal Church’s eerie epic “Watch the Children Pray,” Saga belting out “On the Loose”, etc. But the band that I remember not many of my friends knew but I thought was awesome was Pretty Maids. She leaves behind a beautiful 18 year old daughter, Raven, and a handsome 10 year old son, Brandon. I listen to the House of hair every Sunday morning on 101 WRIF in Detroit while I’m working. That being said, could you play “We’re Stars” by Hear N’ Aid and dedicate it in the memory of my now late friend, Brenda from Oshawa, Ontario?
